That’s a Wrap on 2022 Horse Shows

Last year turned out to be quite the horse adventure for me. Since college my best friend and I always loved going to the barn and taking pictures of her horse and all the others that lived there. Once we realized how great it was, we always thought “what if we could be paid to take photos of horses?”

And she made that happen. For several years now she’s been a top photographer for barrel races in the Missouri area. I followed my graphic design path, which I have loved, but always hoped I could someday be an assistant.

In 2021 and early 2022, she had me drive out for two big shows to help out at to sort photos and take the occasional candid photos. And we left both of them wishing I lived closer and could assistant for her as often as possible. Then I made that happen.

I moved to Missouri. And spend the second half of 2022 being her assistant for almost every show. She has used those shows to train me in how she takes photos and how to get the timing right every time. I’m happy to say, she can’t tell our photos apart anymore.

In addition to stepping in for her while she’s worked on her video skills, I found a new spot to take photos that no photographer has ever used for barrel races. Our friends loved them and kept asking for more!

I’m very happy that I took the leap to move to yet another new state. And that I’ve had this opportunity now to be a horse show photographer. And I’m looking forward to how awesome this year will be. We are figuring out how to add a light for the spot that I will take as many photos as I can.

Check out bgyphotography.com and catch us at the shows making sure everyone gets awesome shots of them doing what they love!
